My visit to greer Chicago—in the heart of Lincoln Park

I had a rare friday off this week and decided to visit one of my favorite chicago shops—Greer—in the heart of Lincoln Park.

I first discovered Greer many years ago when I attended my first-ever calligraphy workshop at their location in Old Town. I immediately fell in love. I remember returning a while later only to discover a completely empty storefront. I nearly panicked thinking they were gone, only to learn they had moved to their new location at 1013 W Webster near DePaul (right across the street from St. Vincent Church).

This new shop is even more lovely and just as well-stocked with so many delightful finds. Today I went in to pick up a few more of my favorite lead holders (another blog on that soon) but, of course, as I wandered around, quickly filled my arms with more wonderful things to take home.

Of my many obsessions, I especially love their handmade paper selection.

Nested so beautifully in vintage card catalogue drawers, they always have a new collection of seasonal colors that I like to keep on hand in case I need to make a last-minute card.

And sitting just atop the cabinet, a charming little vignettE—

one of many that are sprinkled in little corners throughout the shop. This one featured a letterpress spinner card of twelve world-changing women resting in an old miniature typewriter. Small moments and messages of inspiration, thought, appreciation, empowerment are why I could spend hours here just looking around (and wanting to buy everything).

HAUL-LELUJAH!

Here’s a look at what I picked up today:

  1. Fine+Candy graphite pencils in lime, black, white, peach and blush

  2. A lime green magnesium sharpener (for my friend Vanessa who loves green things)

  3. Limited edition Vol.4 Blackwing Pencils (a tribute to Mars)

  4. A spiral-bound mini Standard Issue Notebook (I love this brand of notebook)

  5. A Ladyfingers Letterpress Palm Reading Greeting Card (to put on my office wall of random things I love)

  6. A Shorthand Memo Pad (Lord knows I don’t need another notepad, but I couldn’t resist)

  7. Three Penco Prime Timber 2.0 Lead Holders (so obsessed with the pink and orange one)

  8. Standard of Accuracy 15 cm Ruler

I linked some of the items above, but not everything is available online, so it’s definitely worth making the trip to Greer if you’re in Chicago. Happy stationer-ing!
